Future Leaders of Cybersecurity: Jeffrey Wyatt

At NukuDo, we’re committed to developing the cybersecurity leaders of tomorrow. Today, we’re excited to introduce Jeffrey, one of our NSTP1 trainees. Jeffrey’s journey with us has been marked by his impressive commitment, growing expertise, and a genuine passion for cybersecurity. In this spotlight, we’ll explore Jeffrey’s progress, the experiences that have shaped his path, and how he is becoming one of the future leaders of cybersecurity.

How did you find out about NukuDo, and how did you know the program was the right career step for you?

I discovered NukuDo by chance on a job posting site. Getting paid to learn sounded too good to be true. Making the transition from another career can be tough. Many cybersecurity employers are seeking individuals with professional experience and seem hesitant to provide an opportunity to outsiders. NukuDo was seeking individuals who are mentally prepared for the challenge. The hiring process includes a series of aptitude screening tests. This is when I realized I may have an opportunity to work for an organization that was interested in investing in individuals with potential. At this point in time, I am very happy to be part of the program.

What motivated you to make the leap into the cybersecurity industry?

I transitioned to cybersecurity after working many years in hospitality. I was looking for a career in a field with a higher ceiling that demands overcoming difficult encounters and intellectual growth. Information technology seemed to be full of stimulating puzzles to solve.

What has been the best memory you have made so far in the program?

From the course material, I really enjoyed developing a complete understanding of Python. The programming skills I gained throughout the course allow me to read through and understand just about any type of higher-level code. I also really enjoyed working with the rest of my classmates. Everyone has a positive attitude and is pleasant to work with. It is a diverse group, and everyone has something unique to add to the conversation.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far in the program?

The biggest challenge is shifting gears. The training includes a wide variety of topics. It can sometimes be difficult to transition from one topic to another.

What are your cybersecurity career goals?

My goal is to begin a career with a red team somewhere in the San Antonio area. Eventually I would like to lead a team to solve complex issues. A master's degree in cybersecurity is another goal I am considering, but many more certifications are definitely part of my plans.

What advice would you give to future trainees?

My advice to new trainees is to stay positive and try your best not to take shortcuts. The course is designed to be frustrating. At the end of the training, it will all be worth it. We recently completed the GCIH exam. It is supposed to be a fairly difficult exam, but it seemed rather easy for most of us.
