How did you find out about NukuDo, and how did you know the program was the right career step for you?
I knew the program was the right career step for me because I was eager to break into the cybersecurity industry but wasn’t sure which specific area to focus on. This program provided an opportunity to explore the full breadth of the field, offering exposure to both offensive and defensive aspects. The hands-on experience in different sectors allowed me to understand where my strengths and interests lie, making it an ideal starting point for my career.
What motivated you to make the leap into the cybersecurity industry?
I was motivated to enter the cybersecurity industry because I really enjoyed the networking, cybersecurity, and programming classes I took during college. I found the field exciting, especially the way it challenges you to align your mindset for security and think creatively to find clever workarounds and solutions. Cybersecurity offers a unique opportunity to apply the diverse skills and interests I developed throughout my education, and it felt like the perfect fit to pursue a career where I could keep learning and pushing my technical boundaries.
What has been the best memory you have made so far in the program?
The best memory I’ve made so far in the program was volunteering with the company at a dog shelter. Taking a break from cybersecurity to give back to the community was incredibly refreshing. Spending time helping out and interacting with the dogs not only lifted everyone’s spirits but also strengthened our sense of teamwork in a meaningful and enjoyable way.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far in the program?
The most challenging part of the program for me was breaking out of my shell and becoming more comfortable asking questions to instructors and peers. It took time to realize that asking for clarification or help is a strength rather than a weakness.
What are your cybersecurity career goals?
My cybersecurity career goals are focused on gaining a comprehensive understanding of both offensive and defensive strategies. I’m passionate about exploring red and blue team roles to sharpen my skills in areas like threat hunting mitigation, as well as penetration testing. I’m committed to continuous learning, which includes obtaining certifications that help me grow technically. In the long term, I aspire to step into a leadership role where I can guide and inspire a cybersecurity team.
What advice would you give to future trainees?
My advice to future trainees is to never be afraid to ask for help. Cybersecurity can be challenging, and everyone hits roadblocks. Also, don’t compare your progress to others; be persistent, focus on your own journey and keep pushing forward at your own pace.
